Four nights ago

I lay in our own new house for the first time with my love and our baby, a place we had been looking forward to since our offer was accepted 5 months earlier. A place with a garden, a large room for Hailey, an extra room, and yet another extra room, an attic and a future walk-in closet. For four nights I have been so intensely happy that we are here, even though I still don't have water downstairs... That is occasionally a struggle. It's not ideal to keep fetching water in the bathroom with two empty cola bottles. And to do the dishes in the bathtub. And now there's a bottle of Dreft next to the toothpaste. But this too has its charms. In 2012/2013 we 'lived' in the rubble for 18 months. I say 'lived' because we both still lived at our parents' homes, so we weren't really 'in' the rubble. All the time to turn our little apartment into a lovely abode. Our first pieces of furniture were delivered there and there was no real packing to do. After all, we had nothing yet. Moving. No problem, right?

I have never been so wrong

Saturday, March 31st was the day. 'Where did all these things come from?', I wondered as I glanced at my storage. 'What is THIS even?', I asked my friend as I pulled an old carnival costume out of the closet. 'Where is that container with those little things and screws? I just handed it to you!' As I frantically search for the container-with-the-little-things-and-screws, I slowly see all the pieces of our house disappearing into the van. 'Do we have any boxes left?!', I heard one of our friends bellow from the front yard. Uh.. no. My friend laughed, because according to him, all the boxes were labeled 'Shoes Kelly' or 'Hailey'. Haha, that's true because a lot is from the girls. What a lot of stuff we've accumulated over those few years. From old suitcases filled with my own toys to the 56 spice jars from the kitchen. Boxes full of body products, not to mention the boxes of clothes...

The strange thing is, suddenly it's over

Suddenly you've moved. Okay bye. I couldn't even really 'say goodbye' to the old house that day. Once 'home', everyone was busy getting Hailey's room ready, because that was the most important room that needed to be finished. Hanging curtains, putting away clothes, assembling the bed, vacuuming... everyone was doing something. My dear family worked their tails off. When my little one was in her room for the first time at the end of the day, she had a smile from ear to ear. And although she's still so small, it seems as if all the stress and hassle of the past 5 months really had an impact on her well-being. I kid you not, but she's been sleeping through the night for four nights, and I can't remember when this last happened.

On Tuesday, April 3, we said goodbye to our first little house. Back for a moment with the three of us, where we started as a couple. We have precious memories of our dear little home. It's time for a new phase!

With love,

Kelly & Hailey
