IP address

Your IP address is automatically sent to us by your browser.

Browser data

Your browser data is also automatically sent to us by your browser. As a result, our website adapts to your personal situation (desktop, tablet, or mobile)

Comments under articles and social media posts

Visitors can publicly respond to articles on the site. Such responses are considered personal data. The purpose of this data is to exchange ideas publicly. Providing special personal data, for example about health, political preference, sexuality, or finances, in comments under articles is entirely at your own risk and is never obligatory.

If you respond to messages on our social media channels, we can see your first and last name and username, the photo you set as your profile picture, and other information you provide through your responses.

Email address

The purpose for which we collect email addresses depends on the situation:

  • Newsletter: if you sign up for the newsletter, we will use your email address to send you this newsletter;
  • Actions or competitions: to let you know whether you have won or not;
  • If you send us an email: to be able to respond to your inquiries and notifications.

Cookies

When you visit the For True Parent website for the first time, you will be given the option to consent to the placement of cookies. We do not place any cookies without your consent, except for functional cookies that are necessary for the website to function properly. Cookies are not stored by us, but are saved on your own computer, tablet, or phone via your browser. You have the option to delete cookies through your browser. For this, please consult the manual of your browser.

Our website uses four types of cookies:

  • Functional cookies ensure that the website works technically well;
  • Analytical cookies to track statistics of our website usage, such as the number of visitors and the like. We use Google Analytics for this purpose and have configured it to be as privacy-friendly as possible, so that no personal data is processed.
  • Cookies for our advertising partner Refinery89, to track which ads you see, so you don't keep seeing the same ads;
  • Cookies for our advertising partners Google, as part of their AdSense program, and Facebook.

The cookies placed by For True Parents collect data for the following purposes:

Storage of and access to information

The storage of information or access to information that is already stored on your device such as advertising identifiers, device identifiers, cookies, and similar technologies.

Personalization

Collecting and processing information about your use of this service to subsequently tailor advertising and/or content to you in other contexts, such as on other websites or apps over time. The content of the site or app is typically used to draw conclusions about your interests for the future selection of advertising and/or content.

Ad selection, delivery, and reporting

The collection of information and the combination with previously collected information for the selection and delivery of advertising to you, and to measure the delivery and effectiveness of such advertising. This includes the use of previously collected information about your interests to select advertisements, the processing of data about which advertisements were shown, how often they were shown, when and where they were shown, and whether you took any action in relation to the advertising, including, for example, clicking on an advertisement or making a purchase. This does not include personalization, which is defined as the collection and processing of information about your use of this service to subsequently tailor advertising and/or content to you over time in other contexts, such as websites or apps.

Measurement

Collecting information about your use of content and combining it with previously collected information used for measuring, understanding, and reporting on your use of the content. This does not include personalization, which refers to the collection and processing of information about your use of this service to subsequently tailor advertising and/or content to you in other contexts, i.e., on other services such as websites or apps.

The cookies placed by our advertising partner collect data for the purposes described above, as well as for:

In addition, the following advertising partners may place cookies:

Google

Allow Google and its technology partners to collect data and use cookies for personalized advertising and measurement.

Facebook

Principles of data processing

We process personal data on the basis of the following grounds:

  • Consent you give us. If we process data based on your consent, we will stop processing this data as soon as you withdraw your consent;
  • The processing is necessary for entering into or performing a contract that we have concluded with you;
  • Legal obligation, such as the information that must be included on invoices and the retention requirement for the Tax Authorities.
  • A legitimate interest that we have, such as marketing purposes. We will always balance our legitimate interest against your privacy.

Third parties

To provide our services and run our business, we collaborate with third parties who process data on our behalf. We make use of the following parties:

Hostnet: hosting and mail server

This company is based in the Netherlands and must comply with the regulations that apply under the GDPR. We have entered into a data processing agreement with all parties.

We do not provide personal data to parties other than the processors mentioned above. See 'Transfer of personal data to media responses' below.

Transfer of personal data to media editorial teams

We often receive requests from media editors (from radio, TV, or newspapers) to get in touch with parents. We never pass on the contact details of our visitors to the media editors. We also frequently receive requests from specific visitors, to get in touch with parents who have once shared their experiences on our website. Even then, we never provide contact details, but instead forward the request to the parents being sought. They can then decide for themselves what they want to do with that request. In short: we will never pass on your contact details, which are known to us, to third parties.

Retention periods

Your data will be retained for as long as necessary for you to be able to use our services, and for us to be able to perform our tasks properly. For example:

  • Email addresses that you provide because a user wishes to receive the newsletter will be kept until the user indicates that they no longer wish to receive the newsletter (with an unsubscribe link at the bottom of the newsletter);
  • Comments under articles are preserved (and displayed) until the author requests their message to be deleted.
  • The personal details of participants for competitions and promotions are kept until the prizes have been awarded.
  • Names and email addresses that we receive because someone contacts us are stored in our email archive, which we need for our business operations, for example, to refer back to previous email exchanges. We generally keep these emails indefinitely, unless you submit a request to us to delete all your data.
  • We retain data on invoices and quotations for a minimum of 7 years for the Tax Authorities.
  • Information that you provide through responses on our social media channels will remain until you delete it yourself or request us to remove the data.

Your rights

Because we process personal data about you, you have a number of rights that you can exercise. These include:

  • The right to access the data we have about you;
  • The right to correction of inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • The right to have data erased;
  • The right to object when you disagree with our balancing of interests in processing based on our legitimate interest;
  • The right to restrict the processing of personal data pending the resolution of another right.
  • The right to withdraw consent if we process data based on your consent.

Third-party websites

This privacy statement does not apply to third-party websites that are connected to our website through links. We cannot guarantee that these third parties will handle your personal data in a reliable or secure manner. If you end up on a third-party website via a link, we recommend that you read the privacy statement of that website.

Changes to the privacy policy

This privacy statement applies to the website and the services we currently offer. Should there be changes that also relate to the way we process personal data, this privacy statement will be amended accordingly. This also applies to changes in legislation and regulations. The new privacy statement will be published on the website. If the changes are of direct importance to you or are significant in nature, we will also communicate this directly to you, for example through a newsletter.
