In the first year of Social Care, I met my boyfriend.

We were in the same class and it was love at first sight. It wasn't always easy to be a couple in the same class, but together we are strong and we ignore others as much as possible.

We talked a lot about the future and how we envisioned it, our wishes and our dreams. We both wished to have children, to start a family together. Since we were busy with school, work, and internships, we agreed that once we had finished our studies, were living together, and both had jobs, that's when we would go for it.

I had my period only once from January 2017 to June 2017

I often had stomach pains (menstrual cramps) and frequently suffered from migraines around my menstrual period. Since I had problems with my menstruation in the past and was already known to the gynecologist, my general practitioner referred me there immediately. After examinations, they discovered that I had many cysts on my ovaries. I had had cysts before but never this many. I then had to wait 2 weeks before coming back. And so I did.

In mid-July I had another appointment and after some tests, it turned out my ovaries were black with cysts! After a blood test, I was allowed to go home, not quite knowing what was wrong. A week later, I received a call telling me that I might have PCOS, which would make having children difficult for me/us. The world seemed to collapse beneath our feet. After many conversations with my boyfriend, we decided:

We'll see how things go after our studies.

We wanted to focus first on each other, school, and work. In mid-August, we had another check-up scheduled. That's when it turned out that almost all cysts except for three had disappeared! Meanwhile, they saw something else on the ultrasound and shortly after they mentioned that there was a high chance that I could be pregnant. We both said that couldn't be possible due to the PCOS? I had to get a blood test and would be called about the results after an hour.

Meanwhile, we drove quickly to a store to buy a pregnancy test, then looked for a place where I could urinate and take the test. There was no escaping it; there were immediately 2 clear lines visible. When I got back to the car to discuss it with my boyfriend, I was called by the gynecologist with the news that it was confirmed I was pregnant. We had to come back in 2 days for a consultation.

At that time, we had to decide what we wanted

To keep the baby or to have it terminated. For us, the choice was easy. This is our little miracle and it's staying with us. It turned out I was already about 5 weeks pregnant, the gynecologist was baffled but supported our decision.

By now, I have given birth to our beautiful daughter: Fleur

We are still young, go to school, and live at home. Many people have an opinion about the situation, but we don't care. We have our little family, we go to school and work hard. We are working towards a bright future.

Love Desirée
